Pardon my rudeness. This blog is dedicated to a women that I loved dearly! She was my confidant, a loving mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She was a family oriented person who loved life and was full of energy. She is my grandmother Frances, also known to many as Nanny along with a plethora of other names. She was an avid bowler, sung in the church choir, and occasionally she liked to go to dances. She was a small woman with a large heart. She was feisty and sassy and a wonderful cook but. She was a sweetheart. She meant the world to me and my family. Last August (2014) she personally announced to us that she was battling cancer. She passed away February 17, 2015 (a day I will never forget).
A Stroll Down Memory Lane
For as long as I can remember, we (my sisters, cousins and myself) have always lived in close proximity to my grandmother except for on two instances (when my mother moved my sisters and me to Florida and when I went away/moved during college.) We never lived no more than thirty minutes to an hour away. On several occasions we all lived in the same house, which I loved personally. I have always been close to my grandmother. She was always a phone call away.
She worked in the bakery department at Giants for twenty three years. Often times we (my siblings and I) walked down to her job to see her. Everyone in the bakery knew who we belonged to. She would be either behind the counter decorating cakes or stocking the bread. She would always greet us with an adorningly wide grin and lovingly hugged us. On our birthdays we would make a special trip to the store to let her and her know what kind of cake we wanted and she never disappointed us.
My grandmother had a raspy voice but her laugh was even raspier. I loved to hear her laugh, it was infectious. Bowling was one of my grandmothers favorite past times. She was pretty good and I believe that is where I get my athletic ability and competitiveness from. Time and time again we would go to the bowling alley and watch her during the bowling season and occasionally she traveled with her team to various places. My grandmother also played softball. Once she was photographed doing a cartwheels on the bases. She always made things fun.
She was always the first person we would tell anything to and always supportive. She was a great support system.
You may have left this earth but just know that you will always remain in my heart. It was an honor to have you as my grandmother. You will be missed truly. You left some seriously big shoes to fill.
Until we meet again.
